dirty bones and pumpkin puke

That looks disgusting!
Yeah, that's kinda the point. It's Halloween! Amazingly enough, it tastes really good. The bones are basic breadsticks shaped and sprinkled w/spices. The stew (cooked inside the pumpkin) is a basic cream soup with ground beef, brown rice and lots of onions.

We have done this for a few years and have always just served it on the baking sheet that we cooked it on. I got sick of that this year and wanted a "nicer" presentation so we decided to transfer it to a platter. Important note: the pumpkin becomes soft after being cooked for an hour with stew in the middle. Upon picking it up to commence the transfer the bottom fell out and the puke became, well.... Thus you see our puking pumpkin sitting in it all. Next year we will be sure to use our oversize steel spatula to assist in the move.

  1. That is really disgusting! We've got a boy in our primary class that says one of his favorite treats is dog biscuits - maybe we'll need to make some dirty bones.

  2. What did you use to shape the breadsticks?

  3. Ahh, I think I see how you did that. Did you just basically fold the ends and then cut where it folds under?

  4. Oh, yeah, that would probably work too. I cut the ends first and then turned them under.
